Frequently Asked Questions

What is the youngest age you teach? Do you only teach children or adults too?

We teach all ages - music is for everyone and it is never too late to start.

In terms of the youngest age, we have taught students as young as 4 years of age. We don’t recommend private lessons earlier than that age because a 30 minute private lesson requires a big attention span! As children develop letter recognition and start their reading journey, this also benefits their music lessons. Before age 4 we recommend introducing a variety of recorded music to your child, singing, clapping, and group music classes.

Where do lessons take place? Where is your school located?

We are not a brick and mortar school, so the answer is: the lessons take place in your home in East Toronto. The teachers travel to your home for the weekly lessons (or they teach online).

Do you have trial lessons?

We have a paid trial lesson. Contact us if you’re thinking about trying one lesson before signing up for a full semester.

How do I pay for the lessons?

We send invoices out per semester (or monthly if preferred) and the payment method is email money transfer.

What can I expect at the first lesson?

The first music lesson is part meet-and-greet and part introduction to the instrument. Students get to meet their music teacher, and teachers will want to know what the goals are and what songs the student loves to listen to. Teachers will introduce the instrument, explaining the names of the various parts, and why they’re important (like what those twisty pegs at the top of the guitar are for). :) Some students start playing their first song at their first lesson!

Do you have a recital?

Yes! We hold our recitals every June at the Don Mills United Church in Toronto. It’s a great opportunity for children to perform their piece in front of a supportive audience! Our recitals are always special, and something parents, teachers and students look forward to.
